If you have ever seen
professional wine tasters in action - on the TV or at wine tasting events or
wine tours - at first, you may think it all seems rather silly.
Watch how the wine is poured with
a loving ritual; monitor how much wine is poured in the glass; observe how they
lift the glass and watch the wine against the light; admire all that twirling
and shaking of the wine; see what role the nose plays in the wine tasting
ritual; study how much wine is sipped for the tasting; and after all that - they
spit it out!
What's the point we hear you
asking. Well, follow the same ritual and you'll soon discover that wine tastes
fantastic - like it has never tasted before. Enjoying wine will be a whole new
experience. And you'll love wine like you have never loved it before.
- When you pour the wine, you are beginning to
release the aromatic qualities of the wine
- Fill the wine to one third or half a glass at
most
- Lift the wine glass and you'll detect whether
the wine is nice and unblemished
- Twirl the glass gently to release all the
aromatic qualities
- Put your nose to the glass and delight in the
wonderful aromas
- Take a sip and let the wine soak all your
taste buds
- Spit out the wine
- Move on to the next tasting
Even when you just have one wine
for lunch or dinner, follow the above ritual (except for the spitting out!) -
you will start enjoying wine like it is meant to be enjoyed. Don't just drink wine - smell it, taste it, love it.
